Let's Talk about Mental Health

Navigating Life’s Hard Moments Together

Suicide is Preventable

Conversations can Save Lives

Real Talk, also known as QPR (Question, Persuade, Refer) Gatekeeper Training, gives you the tools to recognize warning signs, start open dialogue, and connect someone to the help they need.

What Is Real Talk?

Real Talk is suicide prevention training for everyday people, physicians, colleagues, family, and community members.

Through QPR training, you’ll learn how to:

  • Ask the right questions to recognize when someone may be in crisis.

  • Persuade them to seek help and know they’re not alone.

  • Refer them to resources that can provide immediate support.

How does Real Talk training work?

Real Talk offers three tailored 90-minute workshops in Scotland and Robeson counties. These workshops will be hosted in fall, winter, and spring, so every audience has the opportunity to attend.

We have specific training workshops for these groups:

For Physicians

Your patients and peers look to you not only for medical expertise, but also for guidance and compassion. This workshop focuses on giving physicians the confidence to recognize signs of distress in colleagues or patients, open space for honest conversations, and connect individuals to the right professional resources without hesitation.

For Care Teams

Whether you’re a nurse, office manager, or staff member, you are often on the front lines of patient and peer interactions. This training helps you learn how to recognize subtle warning signs, respond effectively, and support both coworkers and patients with empathy and actionable steps.

Community Members

Sometimes, the most important conversations happen at home or within trusted circles. This workshop equips loved ones and community members with practical skills to ask caring questions, offer hope, and guide someone in crisis toward professional help.

Why It Matters

When we break the silence around suicide, we open the door to hope and healing. Real Talk helps participants:

  • Gain confidence in starting difficult conversations

  • Encourage help-seeking behaviors

  • Build a stronger, more connected community of support

By learning how to recognize the signs and speak up, you can help save a life.
